Designed for demanding bulk-material handling systems, these molded polyethylene liners provide a practical internal protection solution for raw coal bunkers, storage hoppers, transfer chutes, downpipes, and discharge points. UHMWPE Chute Liners address familiar operating issues in coal preparation, power generation, mining, and aggregate processing: material adhering to steel walls, unstable flow, bridging, repeated blockage, and progressive wear of the host structure. By creating a smooth, low-friction contact surface, the lining supports more consistent material movement while helping preserve the steel equipment behind it.
The base material is ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with a molecular weight of 3–5 million, selected for mainstream mining service. Its wear resistance is substantially higher than that of common steel and nylon materials. In areas where coal, ore, crushed stone, or aggregate falls onto a hopper wall or chute floor, the liner absorbs repeated impact and limits direct erosion of the steel substrate. This helps maintenance teams reduce repairs to worn-through plates and extend planned inspection intervals.
Impact resistance is equally important in cold or fluctuating environments. Unlike rigid metallic lining materials that may be more vulnerable to deformation or cracking under certain conditions, UHMWPE retains useful toughness within its stated operating range of -40°C to +80°C. It is therefore well suited to transfer stations, outdoor aggregate plants, underground coal handling routes, and other locations where falling material creates concentrated impact loads.
A key operational benefit is the exceptionally low dynamic friction coefficient of 0.07–0.11. The naturally self-lubricating surface allows wet coal, fine powder, and granular feed to slide more readily than on rough or corroded steel surfaces. This is especially valuable where moisture, fines, or irregular particle size causes material to cling to bunker walls and interrupt discharge.
For coal bunker liners, hopper liners, chute liners, and dedicated wear-resistant liners for storage bins, smoother flow can help reduce the frequency of manual cleaning and unplanned shutdowns. While liner selection should always consider material characteristics and chute geometry, a low-friction lining is a proven measure for mitigating wall build-up, arching, and difficult discharge in bulk solids systems.
With water absorption of ≤0.01%, the material remains stable in humid operating environments. It does not rust and offers resistance to acid, alkali, dust, and common corrosive influences found in industrial material handling. This makes it a dependable alternative to manganese steel or stainless-steel lining in many applications where corrosion and moisture complicate maintenance. In underground mines and thermal power plants, where damp conditions are common, low water absorption supports consistent liner performance over extended service periods.
Each panel can be supplied with countersunk mounting holes for bolt fixing, allowing the fasteners to sit below the working surface and avoid unnecessary contact with moving material. Compared with steel plate, the lighter weight of UHMWPE simplifies handling during installation and replacement. Panels may also be cut, machined, bent, or fabricated into curved, U-shaped, and other irregular profiles to follow the actual contours of bunkers, hoppers, chutes, and pipes.
These liners are intended for plant operators, engineering contractors, maintenance departments, and equipment manufacturers seeking to improve material flow and reduce wear-related intervention. Selection should be based on the material type, particle size, impact location, temperature, moisture level, and site safety requirements. For underground coal applications, confirming the appropriate antistatic and flame-retardant grade is particularly important before installation.
