Detailed Product Description

For operators moving wet fines, sticky clay, coal, crushed stone, sand, ore, or mixed bulk materials, poor release from a truck body can slow the unloading cycle and leave unnecessary carryback after tipping. These liners are manufactured from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, an engineering plastic based on polyethylene with a molecular weight above 1.5 million. The supplied material grade has a molecular weight of 3 million to 5 million, providing a practical combination of abrasion resistance, impact toughness, and low-friction performance for demanding material-handling environments.

The low dynamic friction coefficient of 0.07–0.20 helps bulk material move across the liner surface with less resistance than an unlined steel bed. Its inherent self-lubricating behavior is particularly valuable where moisture, fine particles, or cohesive material can build up on conventional surfaces. By helping material discharge more cleanly, the lining can support more consistent load release while reducing direct abrasive contact between hauled material and the truck bed.

Why UHMWPE Is Suitable for Hauling Equipment

In abrasive service, liner selection is not simply about hardness. A useful lining must withstand repeated sliding wear, absorb impact from loading, and remain dependable in changing weather. UHMWPE has a density of 0.94–0.96 g/cm³, so it adds comparatively little weight while creating a protective wear layer over high-contact areas. This makes it suitable for dump bodies and other mobile equipment where payload efficiency and practical installation matter.

  • Outstanding wear resistance: The material offers wear performance beyond carbon steel, nylon, and standard PE sheet in many sliding and abrasive applications. Its low-friction surface helps reduce sticking, bridging, and residue accumulation.
  • High impact resistance: The polymer remains tough under repeated material impact and is less prone to brittle cracking in low-temperature conditions than many rigid alternatives.
  • Moisture and chemical resistance: With water absorption of ≤0.01%, the sheet is well suited to humid, wet, and wastewater-related environments. It resists many acids, alkalis, and salts.
  • Cold-weather performance: The material can operate from -269°C to 80°C, supporting outdoor use where severe cold is a concern.
  • Fabrication flexibility: Sheets can be cut, drilled, slotted, heat-bent, and welded to suit equipment geometry and mounting requirements.

Designed Around Real Installation Needs

Effective liner performance depends on matching the sheet layout to the body floor, sidewalls, tailgate area, load type, and fastening plan. Flat panels can be prepared with drilled holes and slots for mechanical fixing, while shaped sections can be produced for transitions, corners, or other complex surfaces. Custom colors, dimensions, and logo engraving are available for projects requiring equipment identification or a consistent fleet appearance.

For best results, installers should inspect the underlying steel surface, remove protrusions that may create point loading, and allow for appropriate fixing positions during thermal movement. The liner should be selected according to the material being hauled, expected impact level, body design, and site temperature. A well-planned installation helps maintain a smooth transfer surface and makes future inspection or replacement more straightforward.

Important Material Considerations

UHMWPE is not intended for sustained high-temperature service. Its heat resistance is limited compared with metal or specialized high-temperature engineering plastics, so it is not recommended where operating conditions exceed the stated temperature range. The material also does not have high surface hardness; sharp, hard objects may scratch the liner face. These characteristics should be considered when handling extremely hot loads or materials with sharp metal edges.

Applications Beyond Dump Bodies

Although frequently selected for haulage equipment, this UHMWPE sheet is also used wherever bulk solids need to slide reliably across a durable, low-friction surface. It is a practical option for facilities seeking to reduce wear, protect structural surfaces, and improve material flow without relying on coatings that can wear away quickly under continuous abrasion.

  1. Coal bunkers, silos, chutes, and hopper linings to help prevent material adhesion and blockage.
  2. Mining, quarry, and aggregate equipment exposed to abrasive ore, gravel, sand, and stone.
  3. Outrigger pads and wear pads for construction machinery.
  4. Corrosion-resistant panels for wastewater treatment settings.
  5. Port fender boards and marine-facing protective components.
  6. Food machinery pads, sliding blocks, and other wear-resistant parts where the selected design is suitable for the application.
  7. Sports training rebound panels and wear pads requiring impact resistance and smooth sliding behavior.
